To mark the departure of  The Brazilian our friend suggested a walk up to some abandoned mines yesterday. Armed to the gills with food, fleecey jackets and raingear we set off up the trail. At one point I was sporting five layers of clothes!

It was so much fun although I have to admit that tiredness and wobbly legs overcame me once or twice on the way up. Note to self: get fitter!

I’ve been living in this beautiful county for nearly six years and I’d never done that walk before and even though it was overcast yesterday it was still breathtaking.

We squeezed ourselves inside a now retired mine that dates back to the mid-19th Century. Such an immense feeling of quietness and of course pitch black. A little unnerving trying not to fall over bits of pipe or down imaginary holes. We peered down a shaft which was mindblowingly deep! Not somewhere to lose your footing or drop a lens cap!

Anyhoo, this is a shot looking over the lake at Glencar from King’s Mountain/Truskmore.
